Tactical Urbanism — Child and Family friendly crossing on Shivarkar Road, Pune

Do you slow down or stop your vehicle when you see a mother with her child waiting to cross the road??

Pune Municipal corporation (PMC) recently took a great #initiative in making the crossing #safe and #accessible for Young Children and their Caregivers near Vitthal Rao Shivarkar Park, a major destination for children's everyday play. First of its kind, visual pop-up traffic calming measure for Punekars to yield to young children, their caregivers, elderly, etc.

Such small and quick interventions planned collaboratively are creating powerful impacts and bringing behavioural change!

So, let's pledge to stop your vehicle next time when you see pedestrians waiting to cross!

All thanks to the great support by Traffic Police Pune, local residents, resident forums, volunteer students while implementing the project

A big shout out to all the team members who worked hard to make it possible!

Ar. Karim Panjwani trained PMC urban practitioners on "Planning and Designing ITC friendly" public spaces

Ar. Karim Panjwani our Lead-Urban Design Team, gave a presentation in Training Workshop 'Planning and Designing ITC friendly Public Spaces' organized as a part of Urban95 partnership between Pune Municipal Corporation and Bernard van Leer Foundation. Ecofirst services limited and Taru Leading edge are technical team for Urban 95 Pune.

His training was targeted to urban practitioners such as architects, urban designers, planners, engineers working with PMC to plan and develop designs for public spaces in Pune.

Mr. Karim shared knowledge on the social infrastructure such as Pre-primary school, Anganwadi, Daycare centres, Creches, Public toilets, etc. need to be designed keeping in mind the requirements of young children and their caregivers. He demonstrated the shortcomings of the present state of social infrastructure in Pune City from the lens of comfort and safety of Infants, Toddlers, and Caregivers(ITCs). He sensitized the participants on how to be more inclusive of ITCs in the designing/planning stage. He also emphasized on how the built-form & interface of the built is very important to be ITC-friendly.
